RECIPES - You want start with a slow moving Recipe - Here are some Basic 20 Coconut, oil 40 Lard, 40 olive oil.
Here is my recipe - 20 Coconut, 15 Lard, 10 Cocoa, 5 Shea, 37 Olive, 8 Sunflower, 5 Caster. Using 1 teaspoon Sodium Lactate per lb. 5% Super Fat and 30% Water. I soap at 90 Degrees Fahrenheit. You want to play with your calculator to have a 40:60 Ratio or close to on Sat and Unsat Fats.
USING A FUNNEL You want to use a funnel to hold the rod in place in the center. I have placed a rubber band taping it into place to keep it centered. You want to mix batter, to Medium light trace. To thin the colors will mix and no patterns. To thick and they will pull in blobs. Medium Trace also seems to work OK. Pour alternating colors. (Best results is contrasting colors from light to dark.)
SQUEEZE BOTTLES & PIPETTES - Cut the ends of the squeeze bottle tips off to allow more flow. Cut the end of the pipette off and the end to allow more flow. You can use tape to ensure they stay together.
MOLD VOLUME - Figuring out you Volume for round bars - Pi (3.14) x Radius x Radius x Length x .4 = OZ. SO, in a 3" PVC mold the Radius is 1.5"If you use lbs. in Soap calc. Take your oz. and divide by 16. 16oz in a lb.So, let’s say my mold is 13" tall. Here is the math PI (3.14) x 1.5 x1.5 x 13 x.4 = 36.738oz. Want lbs. 36.738/16 = 2.296lbs. Round up or under.
GELLING YOUR MOLD - After you pour should force gel stage to help the colors pop, and make your loaf easier to break out of the mold. I use the Cold Process Oven Process Technique. If you didn’t line your mold, gel, or water discount you will have to wait days to un-mold. This is the key of getting the loaf out of the tube. If your mold will fit in your oven upright, use it. Put oven to 170, place plastic wrap over the top and shut off, Don’t over heat in oven, PVC will warp at high temps. I have use buckets with heating pads. I place my mold inside, turn on heating pad and cover with another bucket. I watch for gel and do not let it get to hot or you will get heat tunnels.
REMOVING FROM MOLD - Once cooled, you can place inside the if freezer if it will not break loose. 1 hour. I drop the mold on to a hard surface with a pad, to break loose. If it’s still stuck but moves some, I use soup can to push inside PVC MOLD to pop it out. If soap its still frozen, wait for it to thaw before you cut.
